PPK Ormawa DPM FKIK ULM Trains Women in Karang Intan Village to Master Public Speaking
KARANG INTAN – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), through the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) of the Student Representative Council of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (DPM FKIK), once again demonstrated its commitment to community empowerment. On Friday (August 8, 2025), DPM FKIK ULM held Leadership Class II with the theme “Speak Up!: Great Communication, Strong Organization” at the Karang Intan Village Hall, Banjar Regency.
This activity is part of the BUNGAS Women’s School series, which targets women from the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), village cadres, youth, and village officials. The focus is on equipping women with public speaking skills to strengthen their roles in organizations and community groups.
The presentation was delivered by Rezvi Amalia Rahmah, a ULM Undergraduate Medical Student with experience in public speaking and organization. Rezvi explained the basics of effective communication, identified the causes of miscommunication, and provided strategies for building confidence. He emphasized the three main pillars of public speaking—message content, speaking style, and body language—which, if applied effectively, will make the message more easily accepted by the audience.
In addition to the material presentation, participants actively engaged in practical sessions. They were given case studies and asked to deliver direct responses using the public speaking techniques they had learned. The atmosphere became interactive as participants shared feedback, discussed topics, and practiced public speaking.
According to the local PKK Chairperson, the public speaking skills acquired will strengthen internal communication in the village organization and increase collaboration among members. This is expected to have a positive impact on various community empowerment activities.
The class also aimed to produce a long-term outcome in the form of the establishment of the BUNGAS Academy, a forum for developing the capacity of women in Karang Intan Village in various fields.
The activity concluded with a joint documentation session, marking ULM’s commitment to continuously providing education that empowers rural communities, in line with the university’s mission of implementing the Tri Dharma (Three Pillars of Community Empowerment).
