Rector’s Audience – Friends of Indonesian Proboscis Monkeys Encourage Sustainable Proboscis Monkey Conservation

Banjarmasin – (06/04/2023). Rector of the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si welcomed the arrival of Amalia Rezeki who is one of the founders of the Indonesian Proboscis Monkey Community (SBI) as well as a lecturer at the ULM Biology Education Study Program. This meeting was held in the context of hearing the Proboscis Monkey Report by Amalia Rezeki or who is familiarly called Mrs. Amel and her friends in the Chancellor’s Room, 2nd Floor of the Rectorate Building

He began to dedicate his life to save proboscis monkeys when he was still a student. Curiak Island is one of the proboscis monkey habitats, which at the time the SBI Team first observed there were only 14 of them. Therefore, Curiak Island was chosen as the place for Dr. Amalia saved the proboscis monkeys and their habitat which is now used as a conservation area for proboscis monkeys and other biological natural resources such as rambai trees whose fruit is the proboscis monkey’s main food.

This meeting went very interesting. Moreover, the Chancellor conveyed the big picture that ULM wants and will soon realize through 600 Ha of wetlands that will be proclaimed and managed by ULM. This is in line with ULM’s vision of making ULM a leading and competitive tertiary institution in the wetland environment. From there, the Chancellor had planned that the land could become a place for ULM to be better known to the world. “We will not be shy about inviting world universities to conduct research at our place later,” said the Rector.
