FK ULM, ReCIM and MRIN Hold International Symposium “A Decade of Precision Medicine: Building A Knowledge Network For Better Health Care”

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Lambung Mangkurat (FK ULM) Internal Medicine Specialist Education Study Program together with the Research Center for Internal Medicine (ReCIM) and the Mochtar Riady Institute for Nanotechnology (MRIN) held an International Seminar on Tuesday (28/2/2023) at the Lecture General Theater ULM Banjarmasin building. The international seminar entitled “A Decade of Precision Medicine: Building a Knowledge Network for Better Health Care” presented 3 speakers including Prof. dr. Herawati Sudoyo, M.S., Ph.D., and Dr. dr. Muhammad Darwin Prengkono, Sp.PD., K-HOM, FINASIM., from Indonesia, dr. Kaja Wasik from the United States and the Faculty of Medicine Khon Kaen University Thailand.

ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc., with the Dean of FK ULM Dr. dr. Istiana, M.Kes was present in person to welcome the invitees who came including the Head of IDI South Kalimantan dr. Sigit Prasetia Kurniawan, Sp.PD., K-HOM, FINASIM., Head of ReCIM dr. H. Abimanyu, Sp.PD, K-GEH, FINASIM., and DiRector of ReCIM dr. Nanang Miftah Fajari, Sp.PD, K-EMD, FINASIM.

The title presented in the theme of this seminar was delivered by dr. Nanang, related to the new paradigm in the world of medicine, namely precision medicine. This term is related to the practice of treating diseases which were previously only based on symptoms, but in precision medicine, the treatment of diseases is more personalized according to the genetic characteristics of each individual.

DiRector of ReCIM, dr. Nanang Miftah Fajari, Sp.PD, K-EMD, FINASIM as well as Chair of the Committee for this event said that by knowing the character of the genes, the treatment given can be more appropriate and suitable for patients. The seminar was then followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Research Center of Internal Medicine (ReCIM) and the Mochtar Riady Institute for Nano Technology at Pelita Harapan University.

ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc., as the host of the event, really appreciated this International Seminar, especially ReCIM, which is a Research Center for Internal Medicine, is a professional institution founded by FK ULM in 2022. The Rector hopes that holding this event will increase cooperation and collaboration between universities in conducting research and research. “Through this collaboration, we raise each other. This activity can also help develop science and technology related to specialists in internal medicine which of course is also needed for future research development,” concluded the Rector.
