Rector Becomes Keynote Specialist in Socialization and Dissemination of Banjarmasin City Research and Development Results

The Municipal Government of Banjarmasin through the Regional Development Planning, Research and Development Agency (Bappeda-Litbang) of the City of Banjarmasin held a Dissemination of the Results of Regional Research and Development and Innovation of the City of Banjarmasin in 2023. The event was held on Thursday (02/02/2023) at the Calamus Ballroom Rattan Inn, Banjarmasin. Rector of the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc., was entrusted to be a guest speaker at the event which was directly attended by the Deputy for Regional Research and Innovation Industry. In addition, the Mayor of Banjarmasin was present at the event, represented by the regional secretary of Banjarmasin City, expert staff, assistants and SKPD within the Banjarmasin City government, Head of BPS Banjarmasin, DiRector of Sultan Suriansyah Hospital, DiRector of Bank Kalsel, Head of Bank Kalsel Branch of Banjarmasin City, Chairmen Forum and Community in Banjarmasin, and academics.

The Rector in his material said that Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) is an educational and community service institution and is a partner of the regional, city and provincial governments. The Rector encouraged all stakeholders to jointly develop regional research and innovation in order to support regional development needs in South Kalimantan. He explained that currently the number of lecturers owned by ULM reaches 1400 people at ULM with the qualifications of lecturers with Doctoral Degrees (S3) reaching 460 people. Institutionally, of course it is an obligation to work hand in hand in synergy with all regional, city and provincial governments in South Kalimantan to require the development of the South Kalimantan region which delivers people’s welfare in various fields.

ULM requires lecturers to conduct research and community service to assist local, district, city and provincial governments in the South Kalimantan region in conducting studies in order to support the process of implementing regional development in South Kalimantan. In fact, ULM collaborates with urban districts outside the Province of South Kalimantan. This is a manifestation of ULM’s seriousness in assisting local governments in realizing their ideals and hopes for the welfare of society. Presumably the presence of ULM in the middle of this event can be utilized as best as possible by regional, district, city and provincial governments throughout South Kalimantan.

When talking about research, we are talking about how to balance innovation-based development. Then this research will become a paradigm that can be used as a reference for the community for various development activities in the region. So that this research will become the direction and policy for regional development, as well as the direction for issuing local government policies that aim to improve services to the community and build a better community life through improving people’s welfare which can be seen from increasing the per capita income of an area. Besides that, community welfare is also one of the essential goals of every development program implemented by regional, district, city, provincial and national governments.

The Rector of ULM also informed that South Kalimantan is the 2nd best province in terms of poverty rates, which means South Kalimantan is successful in implementing development programs. This can be used as an indicator to assess the extent to which the success of development carried out by local governments, be it districts, cities or provinces in South Kalimantan.
