Rector: “We Must Appreciate Those Who Achieve”

Rector of the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Prof. Dr. Ahmad, S.E., M.Sc., with Prof. Dr. Ersis Warmansyah Abbas, BA, M.Pd was invited by Banjarmasin Post to participate in the BTALK PEOPLE talk show on Monday (9/1/2023). Prof. Ahmad and Prof. Ersis was present to fill in the talk show discussing the awards for 11 ULM lecturers who were included in the World Top 100 Scientists in Indonesia. The BTALK talkshow was broadcast live on the Banjarmasin News Video Youtube account and moderated by B-Post journalist Agus Rumpoko.

In the talk show, the Rector was asked about the reasons for announcing 11 lecturers as winners of the World Top 100 Scientists in Indonesia award from AdScience. The Rector of ULM said that expressions of appreciation through the mass media were things that should have been given to outstanding academics. “Later on we plan to give certificates of appreciation and hopefully we can provide incentives. This is a monumental achievement that needs to be immortalized for posterity to see,” said the Rector.

Lecturers who conduct research and then the research is published in scientific portals, national and international journals. The publication can then be cited by other authors or researchers. The AD Scientific Index, which ranks researchers, is a scientific index developed by Prof. Murat ALPER and Associate Prof. Cihan DOGER. This institute ranks and analyzes scientists from around the world based on their scientific performance and the added value of their scientific productivity. This index ranks institutions based on the scientific characteristics of affiliated scientists. The basis for assessing and ranking scientists is seen from the productivity and effectiveness of their work in the last five years.

Prof. Ersis said that he previously did not know about the ranking of researchers from ADScience. He himself said that writing is his hobby, whether writing travel journals, research, or just short stories. As a lecturer, for Prof. Ersis conducting research and publication is her basic task and is grateful to ULM for facilitating and even appreciating the achievements of her and other lecturers. “I have also received the Best Paper award and received a prize of 5 million rupiah,” said Prof. Ersis.

Until now, ULM has prepared various programs to support research conducted by lecturers. One of ULM’s flagship programs is the Obligatory Research Lecturer Program (PDWM) which can absorb a budget of up to 10% of ULM PNBP to support lecturers in conducting research. In addition, ULM also seeks to collaborate with various parties, both research collaborations, community service collaborations, or collaborations for the education and teaching process both at home and abroad. “Lecturers who excel in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education must be appreciated. Otherwise, it will not become a capital for the university to further inflame publications,” said the Rector.

With this appreciation, the Rector hopes that more and more lecturers will be motivated to conduct research and publications. Thus, ULM is expected to grow faster in improving the quality of education and human resources.
