ULM Press Records Increase in ISBN-Standard Books, Demonstrating ULM’s Commitment to Strengthening Literacy and Publication Culture

Banjarmasin — Publishing productivity at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) has once again shown a positive trend. ULM Press recorded an increase in the number of ISBN-Standard books published this year, reaching 65 titles, an increase of approximately 8% compared to the 60 titles published the previous year. This surge not only reflects the enthusiasm of the academic community in producing scientific works but also demonstrates ULM’s commitment to strengthening literacy and publication culture.

The Head of the ULM Journal Management and Publishing Center (PPJP), Prof. Dr. Drs. Eko Suhartono, M.Si., stated that the increase in the number of ISBN-Standard Books demonstrates the extraordinary enthusiasm of the lecturers in their work. He explained that ULM Press is currently providing full support to make the publishing process easier and more convenient for all authors.

“In general, lecturers are very enthusiastic about writing books. ULM Press is here to provide the best service, from layout and cover design to ISBN processing, right up to the official publication of the book,” he explained.

Not only focusing on facilitating print publishing, ULM is also preparing strategic steps to expand the reach of the academic community’s works. Prof. Eko revealed that his office is exploring collaborations with Gramedia Digital and kubuku.co.id for e-book publishing. Through this collaboration, lecturers’ works will not only be read more widely but also monetized through a royalty system.

“We hope that, starting in 2026, ULM lecturers’ ebooks will be available on digital platforms, of course with the authors’ approval,” he added.

Furthermore, in 2025, ULM will hold AI-assisted book writing training as an effort to improve writing skills and encourage more works to be published. This training is planned to become a regular event, involving students and young lecturers, as a strategy to minimize ISBN rejection by the National Library and improve the quality of the manuscripts produced.

This increase in the number of ISBN-certified books confirms ULM’s position as a university that is not only strong academically but also consistently encourages the production of scientific works that make a real contribution to the development of science.

With this spirit in mind, ULM is committed to improving this achievement year after year, ensuring that every academic has the space, support, and motivation to continue working and providing the best for society and the world of education.

“Literacy is the foundation of progress. And ULM will continue to be at the forefront of cultivating, nurturing, and strengthening this culture of literacy,” concluded Prof. Eko.
