ULM Educates Banjarbaru PKK Women on Menopausal Health
Banjarbaru – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), through a team of lecturers and students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), held a Community Service (Pengmas) activity that provided reproductive, mental, and nutritional health education to pre-elderly women in Banjarbaru City.
The activity took place on Saturday (August 9, 2025) in Syamsudin Noor Village, Banjarbaru, and involved 30 participants from the local PKK group. The theme was “Establishing a Reproductive, Mental, and Nutritional Health Class as Preparation for Pre-Elderly Women Facing Menopause.”
The head of the Pengmas team, Dr. dr. Didik Dwi Sanyoto, explained that menopause can affect a woman’s physical, sexual, and psychological condition, making it important for the community, especially mothers, to prepare early.
“The issue of menopause is still rarely discussed. Through this activity, we hope to raise awareness and help mothers feel more confident in facing menopause,” said Didik.
At the event, ULM brought in several experts to provide comprehensive education. Reproductive health was presented by Prof. Dr. dr. Triawanti, M.Kes., mental health by Dr. dr. Sherly Limantara, SpKJ., nutrition by Dr. Juhairina, Sp.GK., and neurological health by Dr. dr. Didik Dwi Sanyoto.
Participants not only listened to the information but also actively discussed it and asked questions directly to the speakers. Many of those who had entered menopause found the information helpful.
“We were very helped and hope that activities like this can continue. Menopause is a natural process, and maintaining our health from an early age will allow us to go through it with peace and confidence,” said one participant, whom Prof. Triawanti echoed.
Through this activity, ULM demonstrates its role as a university committed to assisting the community, not only in the fields of education and research, but also in direct service that provides real solutions to everyday health issues.
