ULM Promotes Economic Independence in Karang Intan Village through Budikdamber Training
BANJAR – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), through the Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), successfully held a training on Fish Cultivation in Buckets (Budikdamber) in Karang Intan Village, Banjar Regency, on Thursday (July 31, 2025). This activity was part of the BUNGAS Women’s School Entrepreneurship Class, which aims to build economic independence in the community based on local innovation.
The training targeted local residents, particularly fathers and young men, to master techniques for cultivating fish and vegetables in a single container that is cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and has the potential to generate additional income.
The material was delivered by fisheries practitioner Muhammad Fathur Rahman, S.Psi., who explained the Budikdamber concept as a creative home-based business solution.
“Budikdamber is not just a cultivation technique, but also a business opportunity that can be started from home at an affordable cost,” he said.
After the material session, participants practiced creating three Budikdamber units as business models. This activity was facilitated by Ns. Agianto, S.Kep., M.N.S., Ph.D., the program’s supervising lecturer, who emphasized the importance of all parties’ involvement in building family economic resilience.
“Although this program is called the BUNGAS Women’s School, the involvement of men is also important for the common good,” he explained.
The training resulted not only in three Budikdamber units ready for harvest, but also in the community’s commitment to developing this technique independently. The ULM Student Organization (Ormawa) PPK team will provide further mentoring and monitor the development of cultivation in the village.
One participant, Rahmad (35), acknowledged the tangible benefits of this activity. “Now we have a clear picture of how to start our own Budikdamber at home,” he said.
Through this activity, ULM demonstrated its active role in connecting academic knowledge with the real needs of the community. The synergy of education, innovation, and community participation is expected to become an example of local potential-based economic empowerment that can be replicated in other villages in South Kalimantan.
