ULM Rector Inaugurates ULM Charity House (RAUL)
Banjarmasin – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) is now giving new hope to thousands of its students who are experiencing economic difficulties. This is realized through the inauguration of ULM Charity House on Monday (17/3), coinciding with the commemoration of Nuzulul Qur’an 17 Ramadhan. This Charity House will be a place for distributing zakat and infak from the academic community, with the main priority of helping underprivileged students to be able to continue their education. Taking place at the Baitul Hikmah Mosque, ULM Banjarmasin Campus, this event was attended by the Rector, Vice Rector, Chair and Secretary of the Senate, Deans, lecturers, and students in the ULM environment.
ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si, emphasized that the presence of ULM Charity House is expected to be a solution for students who are experiencing economic difficulties.
“From the data we have, there are around 4,000 students who need assistance. Rumah Amal ULM is here to help them stay focused on completing their education without having to be burdened by financial problems,” said the Rector.
More than just financial assistance, Rumah Amal ULM also upholds the principle of inclusivity. The Rector of ULM emphasized that Rumah Amal’s services do not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion, or other backgrounds. Support for this initiative also came from the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of South Kalimantan. In accordance with Law Number 23 of 2011, Baznas will provide education, direction, and coaching so that zakat management at Rumah Amal ULM runs in accordance with applicable regulations.
“We welcome the presence of Rumah Amal ULM. We hope that Rumah Amal can continue to develop and always report its developments to Baznas,” said Deputy Chairperson 3 of Baznas South Kalimantan, Ahmad Rafi’ie.
With the presence of Rumah Amal ULM, it is hoped that students who are experiencing economic difficulties will no longer have to sacrifice their education. This Charity House is not just a place to distribute zakat, but also a form of ULM’s concern in ensuring that every student has the same opportunity to achieve a better future.
During the month of Ramadan, many activities are carried out at the ULM campus mosque, starting from breaking the fast together, studying the Qur’an, studying the hadith, and others. Vice Rector III, Dr. Muhammad Rusmin, admitted that he was very grateful that the inauguration of the ULM Charity House could be carried out. He emphasized that with the resources available, starting from 1,600 lecturers, 1,200 education staff, and 32,000 students, it is hoped that it can become a great potential for RAUL to collect and distribute zakat, infaq, alms, and waqf to ULM students who need a helping hand.
“Let’s make this ULM Charity House a field for our shared charity,” said Dr. Rusmin.
