Miri, Sarawak — The 1st Konsortium Universiti Universitas Borneo (KUUB) Postgraduate by Research Colloquium 2024 was successfully held at the Lecture Hall, Chemical Engineering, Curtin University Malaysia, on 3-5 December 2024. The event, which was attended by 154 international participants from Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Australia, and Japan, carried the theme “Transforming Borneo into a Global Sustainability Axis”.
This event was designed to respond to critical challenges in achieving environmental sustainability, economic growth, and social inclusiveness. In addition, two ULM Chemical Engineering undergraduate students, Arun Dwi Nugroho and Zikri Daffa Aulia Madani, also contributed through oral presentations and submitted full papers on the second day of the event. Their involvement demonstrated the quality of ULM students in international scientific research.
This international colloquium or seminar is a strategic platform to build collaboration between postgraduate students, academics, industry professionals, and government officials from the Kalimantan region and its surroundings. Various important issues such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, responsible resource management, and sustainable economic development were discussed in the discussion and presentation sessions.
In the future, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) plans to host the 2nd KUUB Colloquium in 2025. This event will be integrated with the 6th International Conference on Chemical Engineering and Applied Sciences (ICChEAS) 2025, which is designed to bring together keynote speakers from all over the world. With a combination of international conferences, keynote speeches, and other scientific sessions, this colloquium is expected to continue the mission of transforming Borneo as a global sustainability axis. The 1st KUUB Postgraduate by Research Colloquium 2024 has proven the importance of cross-border collaboration to address global challenges. With active involvement as demonstrated by ULM, the spirit of sustainability in the Borneo region is getting stronger, making Kalimantan the center of sustainability innovation for ASEAN and beyond.
